INGREDIENTS

For the Chicken:

  • 450 g 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast or thighs, chopped into bite sized pieces
  • 1 cup 240ml buttermilk
  • 1 cup 125g AP flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika optional, for added flavor
  • ½ teaspoon  cayenne pepper optional, for heat
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Honey Sauce:

  • cup 80ml honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil for an extra depth of flavor, optional
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½  teaspoon grated ginger optional
  • ½ teaspoon  red pepper flakes optional for heat
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 teaspoons water for thickening the sauce

For Garnish (Optional):

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Prepare the Chicken – Dice boneless chicken into bite-sized pieces and season with salt, pepper, or favorite spices.
  • Make the Coating — In a bowl, mix together flour, additional spices for flavor, and buttermilk to make a light batter.
  • Coat the Chicken – Dredge each piece of chicken in the buttermilk mixture, then in seasoned flour to coat fully.
  • Fry Until Golden – Pour oil in pan and fry up chicken pieces in batches until skin is crispy and golden brown, draining on paper towel.
  • Make the Honey Sauce — In a saucepan, stir together honey, soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, and a bit of cornstarch slurry, then bring to a simmer until it thickens and becomes glossy.
  • Toss the Chicken — Add the crispy chicken to the sauce and toss gently until every piece is coated evenly.
  • Garnish & Serve – Top with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for added flavor and crunch.
  • Enjoy! – Serve warm with rice, noodles, or veggies and enjoy every crispy, sweet and savory bite!
