Quick, Easy, & Flavorful 5 Ingredient Dip
Making this simple layered dip with cream cheese and salsa is surprisingly simple. It's always a hit at parties and makes the ideal last-minute appetizer or potluck dish. Who knew that something so basic could be so effective?
But you could serve this to your family as well; it's not just for potlucks and gatherings! We occasionally have appetizer nights. We simply prepare a number of appetizers and savor them as we watch a film. I love it! This salsa and cream cheese dip would be ideal for that, and you could keep the leftovers for up to two days!
Ingredients
This basic dish calls for only a few ingredients. Here are the major items you'll need:
- Cream Cheese: One brick of softened cream cheese is required. You can leave it in a ziplock bag in a bowl of very warm water for about five minutes, or I like to leave it out for a few hours. Don't use it in place of tub-based cream cheese; the consistency isn't suitable for this recipe.
- Sour Cream: reduces the heat while enhancing the dip's creamy texture.
- Salsa: Make use of your preferred salsa. Homemade or storebought are both terrific choices. Using canned salsa performs better than fresh salsa. You can change the dip's level of spice by using mild, medium, or hot salsa.
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese: If you'd like, you can also use Colby Jack cheese or Mexican blend.
- Parsley: This gives the dip's flavor a more vibrant taste.
Variations
- Spice It Up: If you enjoy your dips hot, you may add a dash of cayenne pepper or use hot salsa to make them more spicy. For more spiciness, you might also add some chopped jalapeño.
- Lighten it up: by using plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream.
- Add Black olives: would be a great addition.
- Add Beans: You can add a can of black beans to increase the amount of fiber in your meal.
- Add Some Meat: If you'd like a little extra protein, you could easily add some ground beef or shredded chicken.
How to Make Cream Cheese Salsa Dip
Making the dip is incredibly simple and uncomplicated. Actually, aside from the topping, you'll only need four or five items.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare all the ingredients for this simple dip recipe.
- Combine the sour cream and the softened cream cheese in a stand mixer or with a handheld mixer.
- Evenly distribute the mixture in the baking pan.
- Cover the cream cheese blend with the salsa jar.
- Over the salsa mixture, scatter the shredded cheese.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until bubbling and heated.
- Take it out of the oven. Allow to cool and add chopped parsley on top.
- Serve with tortilla chips and savor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can. However, the texture will change. It's not something I advise. Additionally, it's simple to prepare right before serving or can be prepared in advance and kept chilled until serving.
Basically. The consistency of the recipe will be slightly thinner if you use a thinner salsa (as I did) than if you use a thicker salsa. Simply drain your salsa before adding it to the dip if you want it thicker. You can use whichever type of salsa you desire in terms of flavor.
This dip keeps well in the refrigerator. To prevent it from drying out, cover it with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container.
It is better to eat it within a day or two because the longer it sits, the more the liquid may start to separate.
Salsa is a great way to dip corn chips, crackers, tortilla chips, pita chips, bagel chips, or round corn chips.
Expert Tips
- Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature. It will be lumpy and not mix with the salsa if it's cold.
- To bring the cream cheese to room temperature, place it on the counter for half an hour.
- After taking the cream cheese out of the container, place it on a plate that is suitable to use in the microwave. Defrost until the cream cheese is soft, monitoring after each 30-second increment.
