    Why This Recipe Works

    • Foolproof - This dish is so simple that anyone, even children, can cook it, as it offers options for burner, microwave, and no-heat preparations. Additionally, the brown sugar simple syrup ratio is very simple to remember—it is 1:1, just like regular simple syrup!
    • Simple and easy - Only three items are needed to make the syrup: brown sugar, water, and vanilla. It's really that easy! Additionally, making it only takes fifteen minutes!
    • Long-Lasting - This recipe can be kept for up to a month, which gives me plenty of time to incorporate it into cocktails without having to create another batch—that is, if I don't consume it all!
    • Customizable - There are numerous drink recipes that may be made with this brown sugar syrup.

    Ingredients

There are just three ingredients needed to make this brown sugar simple syrup recipe. You probably already have these at home, too!

Water, brown sugar and vanilla extract in measuring containers.
    • Brown sugar - Light brown sugar simple syrup will have a subtler, caramel-like undertone, while dark brown sugar simple syrup will have a stronger molasses flavor. For a richer flavor, I prefer to use dark brown sugar, although standard brown sugar still works well.
    • Water - Tap water or purified water can be used.
    • Vanilla extract - Without overpowering the flavor, a small amount of vanilla balances the syrup's sweetness and flavor. Brown sugar and vanilla go nicely together, so feel free to add a little!

How to Make Brown Sugar Simple Syrup

    1. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together the brown sugar, water, and vanilla essence. Dissolve the sugar by heating over medium-low heat.
    2. To dissolve the sugar, bring the mixture to a boil while stirring. Lower the heat and simmer until the sugar dissolves completely, about 2 minutes.

    1. Take off the heat and leave the syrup in the pan for approximately an hour to reach room temperature.
    2. Store the syrup in the fridge for up to two weeks after pouring it into a glass or jar.

    1. This brown sugar simple syrup can be used as a substitute for maple syrup in a variety of recipes, including mocktails, iced coffee, iced tea lattes, and cocktails.

    Storing

Keep homemade brown sugar syrup refrigerated in an airtight container such as a mason jar or glass bottle.

You can also freeze it if you don't utilize it all at once. For convenience, simply pour it onto an ice cube tray. To speed up the defrosting process, you can brew your coffee directly over the frozen syrup. Store for up to three months in the freezer in an airtight, resealable bag or container that is safe to use in the freezer.

Just to be cautious, I would advise letting friends or family members know that this syrup keeps for up to a month if you intend to give them a jar of it.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Scale it. You may easily scale up or down the recipe to suit your needs because simple syrup is created with a predetermined ratio.
    • Give it time to cool. Make sure to let this straightforward syrup cool before using it in cocktails or iced drinks. To expedite the cooling process, you can place it in the refrigerator.
    • Instead of boiling, simmer. The syrup will become very thick and concentrated if you boil it too rapidly. Don't let it boil violently; instead, let it simmer.
    • Stay close to the pot as the syrup cooks, and boil it over low heat until it reaches the desired consistency.

    Recipe FAQ

    Can simple syrup go bad?

Yes! Cloudy patches in the syrup are typically the telltale symptom. It's time to discard it if you notice this.

What's the difference between classic simple syrup and brown sugar syrup?

White sugar or cane sugar and water are used to make regular simple syrup. Brown sugar and water are combined to make brown sugar syrup. I used dark brown sugar to this recipe to further intensify the flavor.

Why is my brown sugar syrup runny?

This will be a runny syrup. This isn't as thick as maple syrup. However, you can use twice as much sugar if you want a thicker syrup.

What do I do if my syrup is too thick?

Use a little water to thin out the syrup if it's too thick.
