Why you'll love it
My husband loves grilled buffalo chicken and pours buffalo sauce on almost everything. So I thought why not make it from scratch, with fresh ingredients? and believe me, it was an instant hit!
Homemade buffalo sauce is easy to create and versatile in a variety of dishes. Buffalo sauce is made by combining bottled hot sauce with fat, in this case, butter, to make a delightfully creamy sauce that you will enjoy. The butter will balance out the spiciness, and together with the vinegar and Worcestershire sauce, it will produce a distinct flavor from just spicy sauce. It's creamy and delectable.

What is buffalo sauce?
First and foremost, it has nothing to do with the animal. Buffalo sauce is named after its birthplace, Buffalo, New York, where Teressa Bellissimo is credited with inventing buffalo chicken wings at the Anchor Bar in 1964.
Buffalo wing sauce is essentially a blend of cayenne pepper hot sauce and butter. My recipe includes a few extra ingredients to help balance the tastes, but it's still pretty simple. If you keep a bottle of Frank's RedHot in your fridge, you can make it whenever you want!
Ingredients for Buffalo Sauce Recipe
This recipe will require the following ingredients:
- Cayenne pepper hot sauce - Also known as Frank's Red Hot. It's quite hot and tangy!
- Butter. For richness and a buttery taste, use butter. Vegan butter also works!
- Garlic powder - Used to provide a delicious, umami taste.
- Paprika. paprika provides an earthy, spicy flavor to the dish.
How to make homemade buffalo sauce
This spicy sauce is quite simple to create. When we initially began preparing homemade buffalo sauce, it was occasionally oily. Nobody wants that. However, we have subsequently devised a way to provide you with the smoothest, richest buffalo sauce available.
- Remove the butter from the refrigerator, unwrap it, and cut it into tablespoon-sized pieces. Place aside.
- Combine the spicy sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Allow the mixture to warm through and begin to steam, but do not allow it to boil. Stir it often.
- Remove the skillet from the heat when the sauce begins to steam and just begins to boil.
- Add the butter to the spicy sauce and whisk vigorously to combine as the butter melts.
- As the butter melts, the sauce will cool somewhat, but it should be warm enough to thoroughly melt the butter bits.
- If desired, season with a dash or two of salt.

Storing Homemade Buffalo Sauce
This recipe yields enough sauce to coat 5 pounds of wings in numerous layers and still have sauce left over for dipping. Any leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
If the sauce separates and gets "chunky," this is just due to the butter solidifying. It only takes a minute in the microwave to soften the butter and restore the smoothness of the sauce.
