Breakfast in the Air Fryer is amazing! The cleanup is simple, and the french toast is ready in under 10 minutes! Best of all, you won’t have to stand over the cooktop waiting for the french toast to flip! This Air Fryer French Toast will become a breakfast staple in your household!

This is one of the simplest French toast recipes I’ve ever across. The batter is rich and produces a good and light batter, which when paired with air frying produced a beautiful and fluffy result.

Ingredients to make air fryer french toast

This is just an overview of the ingredients needed to make the air fryer french toast. For a detailed list be sure to check the recipe card down below!

air fryer french toast ingredients

Ingredients for air fryer french toast are very simple and just a few:

  • Bread: We like to use sliced brioche for this recipe. It has a somewhat sweet flavor and a delicate texture that absorbs the egg and milk mixture effectively.
  • Eggs: Bread slices are dipped in beaten eggs before being cooked in an air fryer to achieve a beautiful crisp.
  • Milk: This recipe may be made with any sort of milk. It’s best to use 2% dairy or plant-based milk such as unsweetened almond milk or oat milk.
  • Vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt are used as seasonings.

How to make Air Fryer French Toast

This is just an overview of the steps needed to make the air fryer french toast. For detailed instructions be sure to check the recipe card down below!

Whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in a medium mixing bowl. leave aside

a bowl of glass containing french toast batter

Set up an assembly line by placing the whisked egg mixture and bread close to each other.

french toast bread in egg mixture

  1. To prevent the bread from sticking to the air fryer basket, spray it with nonstick oil spray (I prefer to use a MISTO SPRAYER like this one) or line it with parchment paper (this is important).
  2. Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture, making careful to cover both sides. Remove from the mixture and let aside for a few seconds before placing it in the air fryer basket. Repeat with the remaining slices.
  3. Close the Air Fryer and set it to 400°F for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, carefully remove the basket and turn the french toast pieces.
  4. Close the air fryer and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes at 400 degrees. The time may vary significantly depending on the model of the air fryer.
  5. When the french toast is done, remove it from the pan and cook the remaining french toast slices.
  6. Serve with warm maple syrup and powdered sugar, or any toppings you choose!

How to Freeze Air Fryer French Toast

Allow the french toast to cool fully before serving. Place the slices in a freezer-safe bag (such as these reusable ones) and push out any air before closing. Store in the freezer for up to three months.

How long does air fryer French toast take to cook?

5 to 6 minutes at 375F works nicely and yields a soft and fluffy bite. Because air fryer models vary significantly, check at roughly 4 minutes.

Can the bread slices be stacked?

Place the wet bread in the air fryer basket in a single layer for the best results. This ensures that they crisp up evenly. You do not need to flip the toast sticks while they are cooking.

How Do you serve them?

We like to serve this with powdered sugar on top and maple syrup for dipping. Serve with fresh fruits and berries, or go all out with whipped cream.

Prevent your screen from going dark

  • 1 pack sliced bread.

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsps honey

Instructions

  • Whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in a medium mixing dish. put aside.
  • Set up an assembly line by placing the whisked egg mixture and bread close to each other.
  • Spray nonstick oil spray on the air fryer basket.
  • Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture, making careful to cover both sides. Remove from the mixture and let aside for a few seconds before placing in the air fryer basket. Repeat with the remaining slices.
  • Turn off the Air Fryer. Preheat the oven to 400°F and bake for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, carefully remove the basket and turn the french toast pieces. Close the air fryer and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes at 400 degrees. *Time may vary significantly based on the model of air fryer.
  • When the french toast is done, remove it from the pan and cook the remaining french toast slices.
  • Serve with warm maple syrup and powdered sugar, or any toppings you choose!

Recipe Notes

  • Don't soak the bread too long. Brioche has a soft texture and will quickly absorb the custard liquid. If you soak it for too long, it will begin to come apart.
  • Line the basket of your air fryer with parchment paper. If your bread is a touch mushy, line the basket with parchment to keep the moisture from pooling in the bottom. The air fryer seen here did not require parchment paper. Some of the comments below mentioned sticking with the parchment paper, so you may also spray the paper with cooking spray for further assurance.
  • Warm up your air fryer. If you do not preheat your air fryer, the French toast sticks may not cook uniformly and the middles may remain raw. If your air fryer does not have a preheat option, set it to 375°F for 5 minutes before adding the bread.
  • Use a different type of bread. We adore the richness and sweetness of brioche, but you may use other sliced pieces of bread in this recipe. If using a substantial bread, such as sourdough, soak it in the egg mixture for a bit longer.
